Stop Tuberculosis in Ruashi Mining Area (Congo)
The project has been working with mineworkers, ex-mineworkers and their communities since June 2018. Mineworkers in the DRC are one of the high-risk population groups most likely to develop active Tuberculosis (TB).
The aim of the project is to raise community awareness about TB in Ruashi Health Zone in Haut Katanga province. By training health workers and raising community awareness, and with the implication of local health structures, the project has transmitted the message that although TB is a highly contagious disease, if detected early enough it can be successfully treated.
Ruashi Health Zone was chosen for this project because several mining companies operate in the area, so the likelihood of finding mine workers with tuberculosis is high.
