Farmers’ Cubs – Makoni (Zimbabwe)
DAPP Farmers’ Clubs Makoni started in January 2013. The purpose of the project is to work with 1,200 small scale farmers, where 350 of them had participated in a previous project in this area, and 900 are new. The farmers are organised into 24 Farmers’ Clubs of 50 members, each with a committee of 5 members.
Farmers get technical assistance and prepare actions to plan for exchange visits to share experiences and demonstrations on how to use low cost solutions. Farmers will produce sufficiently from their land to obtain food security for their families and earn cash by selling their products on the market. The project focuses on garden farming, where it aims at increasing horticultural production and encourages crop diversification with field crops, mainly small grains, that are drought resistant.
