Community Development Amazonia (Brazil)

Community Development Amazônia works with women, young people, and Indigenous communities across two regions of the Brazilian Amazon — Marajó Island in Pará and Bananal Island in Tocantins — to strengthen opportunities, improve wellbeing, and support more resilient communities.

Although the territories differ in geography and culture, both initiatives share the same goal: helping communities build stronger futures through skills development, health promotion, leadership, and economic inclusion. On Marajó Island, the project supports women and youth through vocational training and entrepreneurship activities that create new income opportunities and strengthen local livelihoods. Training areas include tailoring, hairdressing, manicure, digital skills, and life skills that help participants gain confidence and increase economic independence.

On Bananal Island, the project works together with Indigenous communities to improve health awareness, strengthen women’s participation, and support young leaders. Through regular community activities, health education, and local engagement, the project helps create healthier environments while empowering communities to shape their own development.

Together, these initiatives combine economic empowerment, health, education, and leadership to strengthen social inclusion and create long-term positive change in one of Brazil’s most environmentally and culturally important regions.
