History
In 1998, the first Humana second-hand shop and sorting centre was opened in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The initiative was created to develop an innovative fundraising model based on the reuse of donated clothing-extending the life of textiles while generating resources to support development projects.
What began with a single shop and sorting facility has since grown into an international circular system operating across multiple countries. The success of the model demonstrated that second-hand clothing can create both environmental and social value, linking responsible consumption with long-term community development.
Today, this approach continues to guide Humana Second Hand Fundraising Projects, connecting clothing reuse with global impact.
About Us
Humana Second Hand Fundraising Projects (HSFP) is a Lithuanian public establishment that manages and develops second-hand clothing reuse and retail operations across Europe and beyond.
Through a network of subsidiaries operating in multiple countries, we run second-hand shops and sorting centres that extend the life of clothing while generating resources for global development projects.
Across the network, more than 300 shops and several sorting centres employ thousands of people and contribute to local economies in the countries where we operate.
Our work connects circular economy solutions with social impact – transforming donated clothing into opportunities for people and communities worldwide.
Our Circular Fundraising Model
We enable people to reuse clothing and give textiles a second life through responsible collection, sorting, and resale.
Almost every garment finds its most suitable next use – whether for reuse locally or internationally, recycling, or other recovery solutions.
This circular approach reduces textile waste, lowers carbon emissions, and decreases the demand for new clothing production.
Surpluses generated through commercial activities are reinvested through Humana Second Hand Fundraising Projects to support sustainable development initiatives globally.
Global Development Impact
Development projects funded through HSFP are implemented by organisations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement, a global network operating in dozens of countries.
Together, partners implement and finance more than 1,800 development projects in the fields of:
- Health
- Education
- Environment
- Agriculture
- Community development
In 2025 alone, these projects reached approximately 15 million people worldwide.
From 2003 to 2025, the Humana network has contributed more than €130 million to development cooperation efforts.
Activities in Lithuania
In Lithuania, Humana Second Hand Fundraising Projects began its activities in 1998 with the opening of the first second-hand shop and sorting centre in Vilnius.
Today, our activities in the country are carried out through the public establishment Humana People to People Baltic, which supports international development projects in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, while also contributing to social partnerships and community initiatives locally in Lithuania.
Lithuania remains an important part of our circular fundraising system, creating employment opportunities, promoting textile reuse, and strengthening responsible consumption practices.
